Twilight Zone Drought

You remember that Twilight Zone episode where the Earth falls out of orbit and is too close to the sun and water becomes so scarce that life becomes scary?

I probably saw that episode at way too young of age, and it’s always stuck with me. I’ve always turned off the faucet while brushing my teeth. When I drank water, I felt the nourishment and knew my body needed it.

Before viewing this episode, I was like most kids; hose games, water balloon fights, and water slides galore.

NOW we are living in the futuristic twilight zone (without the earth orbiting offtrack.) Holden is used to brushing his teeth without the water going the whole time. He now says to me “Water is precious Mama” if, in his opinion, I leave a faucet on too long.

It’s with great guilt I not only allowed but participated in a balloon fight with Holden today. What can I say, the squeals of joy were addictive.

I won’t make a habit of it, but today it was so lovely to watch him be a part of my childhood joy he hasn’t known in the same way I did.

It’s a different time and sometimes feels like a whole other different planet.
